Wonderful Woman!

According to the world of false media having your first baby is an experience one should cherish; the stork softly swoops down from the puffy white of yonder with a bundle of pink cheeks, sparkly blues and a head of hue. You lovingly smile at your partner and together you embrace your cherub of chubbiness and begin your journey of family folly...

Flash back: bloated belly, contractions, excruciating pain, invasion of the worst kind, cuts, stitches, tears, fears, complete and utter exhaustion AND this is only the beginning!

Having a baby is not as friendly as it's made out to be, despite all the books read and the research you've done, nothing can quite prepare you for what's coming. I found that my one and only solace, comfort and complete guide to stop me from falling off the edge was the companionship, understanding and support of other mothers. One particular life saving example was the kindness, strength and guidance from our local breast feeding counsellor, Ursie Phayre. After a few weeks of very little sleep and the overwhelming feeling that my life would never be the same again, she turned up at my woeful doorstep, calm and willing to take the reigns. She took me and my baby to her home, fed me, nurtured me and advised me gently on a simple routine to follow. She showed me how to care for my baby and for myself and really listened to what i had to say and understood exactly what I was going through. It was just one day that turned the experience around for me. I returned home a lot more confident in what I was doing. If I needed some advice or a shoulder to cry on, I would just have to pick up the phone and she would be there in a heart beat, reassuring, guiding and listening!

To all new mothers, I personally cannot stress enough the importance of seeking support that really understands you and has the knowledge of experience. It really will make your life a lot easier and the tough times far more bearable. Just till you reach that 3 month bench mark and that toothless smile is enough to reassure you that you're doing o.k!

Counseling Success Testimony

After my child was born I was having trouble understanding if he was getting enough milk and developing a good feeding routine. Ursie talked me through the steps that I should follow in order to make nursing a positive and succesful experience. It was a fantastic help and shoulder to lean on when things seemed so unknown and difficult with my child. Because of this advice I persevered and have had a successful breastfeeding experience.
